ORIENT began their pre-season campaign with a 5-4 win at Billericay Town on Tuesday evening.

It was a good evening for the strikers as all three got on the score-sheet.

New hitman Adrian Patulea scored the fourth goal against the Ryman Premier side. Ryan Jarvis started his push for a place in the first team with a brace, and Scott McGleish also found the net.

Ben Chorley made his debut at centre-back and was captain while he was on pitch. The 26 year-old was a vocal presence who co-ordinated the back line.

In midfield, dynamic Jimmy Smith posed a threat with his passing.

Boss Geraint Williams changed the entire team at half time.

Afterwards, he said: “Everyone gave a good account of themselves. It's not easy when the team's mixed up and you have inexperienced players and trialists mixed in with the senior lads.

“Perhaps it shows we're not strong enough to put two sides out every game, so its a good job we wont have to.

“It was a good 45 minute workout for every player in the squad. We created chances and scored five goals.

“It's nice to know we still have something to work on, we're not the finished article and we have to work at defending a bit better.

“Adrian (Patulea) looked a real goal threat and could have had three or four. Jarv got two and could have got one or two more, and Scotty got on the score-sheet as well. It was a good night for the strikers.”

Williams revealed that he wants to add bring in more players ahead of the start of the new campaign, on August 8.

“There's more spaces open at the club, and we want to make sure we keep the players we want at the club, and also to add one or two more before the start of the season” he said.

The O's had to come from behind twice in the first half against a fired up Billericay side, in front of 702 spectators.

JJ Melligan equalised on 12 minutes after Billy Bicknell opened the scoring after just 7 minutes, with the first goal of his hat-trick performance.
