A YOUNG racer is looking for local firms to join him as he heads for the summit of British motorsport, live on national TV.
Speedy Robet Gaffney, 19, can be seen most weekends on ITV4 in his Renault Clio car, battling it out on the tarmac in the Renault Clio Cup.
The teenager’s exploits are part of the warm up for the high-octane British Touring Car races, and around half a million people tune in every race-day.
Now ambitious firms have the chance to reach that vast audience of potential customers by getting on board with Robert and joining him on his race to the front of the grid.
The Waltham Abbey resident needs sponsors to fund his dream of a drive in a touring car.
In return he will deliver his sponsors’ brands into thousands of living rooms up and down the country with assured displays of driving.
And from November, logos could be plastered on a 160mph Porsche Carrera, when Robert moves up a class.
He described a typical race-day at famous circuits like Silverstone and Brands Hatch, where sponsors get the full VIP treatment.
“It’s a great experience” Robert said. “The sponsor’s can follow the race from the pitwall, and there’s a bit of glamour too. It’s a good day out.”
Full time racer and part time instructor Robert has a reputation as one of the cleanest and smoothest driver’s around.
That means a sponsor should not face the sight of their logo upon a smoking wreck too often.
“It’s everything to me” said Robert on racing. “We’ve had a couple of podiums this season, but its been downer so far. Now though, things are turning and we qualified sixth at Silverstone.”
Dad John keeps a close eye on his son’s fledgling career.
He said sponsoring the car is a good investment, even in hard times.
“It is a excellent corporate tool for a firm. And we can bring the car and stand it outside a sponsor’s offices. You reach a very big audience on the television too.”
