ORIENT made the short trip to Dagenham upon Thames to play their last warm-up game against the Daggers.

A dull encounter against League Two opponents was decided at the final whistle by Scott Griffiths, who headed home Solomon Taiwo's corner from the left.

Most important for boss Geraint Williams was that his players made it through unscathed. The team can now turn its thoughts to next Saturday and the trip to Bristol.

Someone quipped once that Dagenham has a suicide pact with another industrial part of the capital city, instead of a foreign twin.

And spectators at Victoria Road on Saturday would be forgiven their own dark thoughts as they watched this encounter wind to its end in the east London rain.

On the field, defender Ben Chorley was missing with a mystery niggle. There was a start for young Luke Ashworth instead.

Harry Baker was a last-minute inclusion in place of JJ Melligan.

After a quiet start to the game, Orient started to create chances.

Thornton's free kick went just over the bar from 20 yards on 25 minutes.

Soon after, Jason Demetriou's deep cross from the left was almost met by Thornton at the far post, for whom it proved a stretch too far.

At the other end, the Daggers posed a threat only rarely, which was as well because Orient's back-line was not as composed as fans have seen.

Jon Nurse squandered a great chance when he blazed over for the Daggers close to the break.

Orient's best passing phase started at left back and ended with Smith shooting over the bar near to the half-time whistle.

After the break, Sean Thornton's free kick sparked a neat cross-box move which Scott McGleish, up front alongside James Scowcroft, finished from an acute angle with a shot straight at Tony Roberts.

Daggers' main man Paul Benson nearly scored when he rolled a shot across Jamie Jones, but watched it bounce off the root of the post.

Orient created little as the game wore on and the winning goal will not be rued long in the O's camp, although it was celebrated by Griffiths like any last-minute winner anywhere.

Jones, Purches, Mkandawire, Ashworth, Baker (Melligan), McGleish (Jarvis), Thornton (Pires), Demetriou, Daniels, Smith, Scowcroft (Patulea).
