Geraint Williams says JJ Melligan must continue the season as he has started it.
The midfielder has scored two goals and set up another in two games.
His latest strike was on Tuesday night, against Colchester in round one of the Carling Cup.
Afterwards, O's boss Williams said: "Sean (Thornton) was joking about JJ and an international call up.
"I had a chat with him about him keeping his feet on the ground because he's set himself some standards in these two games.
"He has to keep living up to them, or he'll know about it."
