ORIENT'S Wembley dream was snuffed out on penalties against lower league opponent's at Brisbane Road, tonight.
The omens were not good after a first half display by Orient in this Johnstone Paints Trophy quarter final tie in which they were as bad as the visitor's were good.
In the end Hereford were worthy winners and their keeper Adam Bartlett was the hero of the hour, as he saved three of Orient's penalty kicks.
Jason Demetriou's deflected equaliser with the last kick of the game in extra time was the culmination of 45 minute long bombardment of Hereford's penalty area.
Bt it only delayed the inevitable result.
Bartlett was in inspired form throughout, making crucial saves during the game and then in the shootout too.
He parried the kicks of Sean Thornton, Charlie Daniels and Luke Summerfield to seal Hereford's progress.
The visitors had taken the lead in the game through ex-Orient player Leo Constantine.
He scored in the 24th minute when he was in place eight yards out to rifle home Mark Marshall's pass from the touch-line.
Orient were tootless in that half but vastly improved in the second half, part in thanks to the added bite which substitutes Adrian Patulea and Sean Thornton provided.
Then, the host's had 20 chances compared to Hereford's one in the whole game.
Jamie Jones sole action during normal time was picking the ball out of the net.
Later, he saved Jamie Tolley's spot kick in the shootout, but Bartlett was the hero of this tie.
