Redbridge Council has rubbished a story in The Sun newspaper today that Leyton Orient FC are set to re-locate to Fairlop Waters.
A spokeswoman for the council told Guardian Series Sports: “The Leader of the Council has categorically stated that Leyton Orient will not be going to Fairlop Waters.”
An anonymous source told the Sun paper about “secret talks” between the authority and the club about leaving Brisbane Road for a site in Fairlop.
But the spokeswoman did reveal the council believes the club would like to move somewhere in Redbridge.
“We have not had any formal approach about Fairlop Waters or any other site in the Borough.
"We would need to see a firm proposal before considering the idea, and any development proposal would be the subject of wide public consultation.”
The councillor in charge of Leisure services at Redbridge council also refuted the rumour.
"I have no idea where this stuff about Fairlop came from. Leyton Orient are not going there" said cllr Alan Edward Weinberg.
"No leisure officer has been in discussion with the club. "Whatever happens in one, two or five years time, Fairlop is not on the agenda."
