Oldham Athletic v Leyton Orient
League One, Saturday January 9
Last meeting: Orient 1 Oldham 2 (15-08-09). Orient’s second league game of the season and their first at Brisbane Road ended in defeat as a brace from Pawel Abbott cancelled out a Ryan Jarvis goal.
The opposition: Oldham are one of Orient’s chief relegation rivals at present, a run of just one victory in their last nine league games sucking them deeper into trouble, to the point that they now lie just two places above the drop zone and a point ahead of the O’s.
Danger men: Striker Pawel Abbott has terrorised League One defences for several years, most successfully with Huddersfield during his three years there. Having done the same during a shorter period for Darlington, he now finds himself averaging almost a goal every other game for Oldham and, without him, the Latics may well be cut adrift.
Prediction: Oldham 1 Leyton Orient 1.
Did you know?: Many of Oldham’s players either perished or retired after World War One. The team were cut down in their prime during their time in the First Division and they would not experience such heady heights for another 68 years.
