Orient produced a result worthy of a place in the video archives as they beat promotion tipped Charlton Athletic at the Valley tonight.
It was the evergreen Scott McGleish who stunned a raucous Valley crowd into silence when he stooped to dive in and head Orient in front three minutes into the second half.
Sean Thornton, who had been a virtual spectator in the first half, supplied the ball with a pin point pass to the far post.
Charlton were unbeaten at their South London home before tonight. The win fires Orient up int 15th in the League One table.
The goal sparked jubilant scenes among the travelling O's fans and the players, all in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Then Ryan Jarvis almost doubled the lead straight afterwards. His snap shot effort from 12 yards out bounced off the foot of the post, after he turned veteran Christian Dailly.
Charlton Athletic did not play like nailed-on promotion certainties. This was partly due to wasteful finishing in front of goal, but also thanks to the combined efforts of Orient's backline.
The O's defied their lowly League One position and looked nothing like a relegation-threatened side. They were better organised than their lofty opponents.
Charlie Daniels enjoyed a stand-out display at left-back, where he kept the nippy Lloyd Sam in his pocket.
Charlton's teenage wunder-kid Jonjo Shelvey was quiet in the heart of midfield.
Ben Chorley was solid at centre-back and produced one vital goal-line clearance when Deon Burton almost gave the hosts an undeserved lead, just before half-time.
His comrade Tamika Mkandawire put his head where it hurt to repel the waves of attacks which followed the goal.
It seems like Orient as ever raised their game for the big occasion.
McGleish's goal stopped a Charlton surge dead in its tracks. The hosts had been kept subdued in the first half by an organisd Orient, and they came out all guns blazing after the break.
It was not all one-way traffic. On loan Nicky Adams was a constant threat from the right wing for Orient.
There were spells of last-ditch defending for Orient, and time and space were at a premium too.
Burton went close and Jones saved at his near post from Dailly's header as Charlton foraged for an equaliser.
They should levelled on 65 minutes after Demetriou's error let in Frazer Richardson who squared for Mooney with all the goal to place his shot. His scuffed effort dribbled wide.
But even with the hosts piling on the pressure, Orient still were able to string together neat sequences of passes, but chances were very much at a premium.
Jonathan Téhoué was a threat when he came on for McGleish on 69 minutes, and tested Eliot.
The hosts grew more desperate as the game entered the final ten minutes.Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Dickson blazed wide.
But this was a night for Orient to savour and the perfect preparation for this weekend's epic trek to Carlisle.
Jones, Purches, Chorley, Mkandawire, Daniels, Adams, Chambers, Thornton, Demetriou, Jarvis, McGleish (Téhoué 69).
