ORIENT top scorer Scott McGleish has backed the team to be full of confidence for this weekend’s journey north.
The O’s make the 645-mile round journey to take on Carlisle United at Brunton Park, in Cumbria, less than 10 miles from Scotland.
Then, on Tuesday, they are in action at Brisbane Road, when Bristol Rovers come to town for a rescheduled League One fixture.
“We shouldn’t be lacking confidence after two victories,” insisted McGleish.
“We’re the first team to have beaten Charlton at home this season, so we should be brimming with confidence.
“It’s great preparation, but that is one result and unless we get the right result up there, it will have meant nothing.
“We know there’s goals there in our team and if we create chances, we’ll score some. But it’s the two clean sheets that are more pleasing than anything.”
McGleish suffered a dead leg during the Charlton victory earlier this week, but fancies himself to keep finding the net this season.
He got on the scoresheet when Orient went up to Brunton Park last season, and won 3-1.
“I would expect to at least break into double figures, up to 15 and maybe onwards from that. Chances come and I fancy myself to score more than I miss.
“I feel there’s life left in the legs,” he said. “I do believe there’s a good couple of years left in me. Goals dictate that. If I keep scoring, someone’s going to take a gamble on me.
“I know there’s goals in me.”
Orient boss Geraint Williams thinks the Charlton game can be a springboard for the campaign.
“For belief, it's one of the most important,” he said. “But if we go to Carlisle on Saturday and don’t do the right things, we’ll get beaten up there. There’s no guarantees in this league. Exeter can beat Leeds.
“Too many times this season, we’ve been competitive but we’ve come away with nothing.
“Charlton are a good side and they’ll be up there at the end of the year, so we have to do everything well. When we do that we can compete, and we can be successful.”
Against Charlton, Orient were organised and positive. The Addicks were unimpressive.
Sean Thornton picked McGleish with a pinpoint pass at the far post for the veteran to head in past keeper Rob Eliot.
Ryan Jarvis saw his shot hit the post soon afterwards.
Williams reflected: “We haven’t really taken the points we’ve deserved from our performances. I’ve got to get this mentality into the players that when we’re in front we keep going forward.
“You can’t go on saying ‘well, we played not bad, but we got beaten again'. (Now) when I tell them we’re good enough to go anywhere and get a result, this result proves it.“ u Go to guardian-series.co.uk/sport for Charlton v Orient match report.
