HAVING scored his first goal of the season in Orient's 1-1 draw at Cambridge on Tuesday night, winger Andy Scott is hoping he will continue to find the net on a regular basis this season, writes Leo Tyrie.
Last season the east Londoners relied far too heavily on Gary Alexander's goalscoring exploits And Scott has set himself a target of at least ten strikes this term to help make sure the O's don't struggle in a similar fashion during the 2004-05 campaign.
Speaking after the Abbey Stadium draw, he said: "As a winger I expect to get into double figures.
"My job is to support the striker and I should be getting ten goals a season, which should be the same for Wayne Carlisle as well.
"That is me off the the mark now but it's a collective effort because we've all got to chip in from everywhere this year.
"Midfield players, forwards and even the defenders as well."
But despite his opener Scott was still disappointed with his own luck in front goal, as well as that of the Orient team as a whole.
He continued: "On another night I could have had three goals, but I've hit the post and gone close at the end.
"I think we deserved to win the game but we're pleased with the overall performance."
That wasn't exactly hard following Saturday's meek surrender to an unfancied Macclesfield team.
Scott knew how important it was for Martin Ling's men to get the start of their campaign back on track with a good performance against Cambridge.
He continued: "You need to get off to a good start in this league.
"Because it's often the teams who start well that stay up there.
"It is a confidence thing, and while we've only come away with a point tonight we can still take a lot of positives from the game into our match with Cheltenham on Saturday."
The former Oxford man is also confident that despite many pundits writing off the O's during the early season there are enough quality players at Brisbane Road to prove them wrong.
He said: "I don't think we have anyone to fear in this league because we know we can do the right things.
"Everyone knows their jobs and we are confident of beating anyone.
"We've got good players at this club who can pass the ball and move it around well and it's just a matter of getting things right on the day."
