THREE hundred people watched the third annual Dale Jacobs Trophy match at Brisbane Road, last weekend.
The charity match between LOFT (Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust) and Leyton Orientear featured former O’s players.
The crowd was treated to an action-packed match which ended 2-2 at full-time, and was won by LOFT on penalties.
The event helped to raise around £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support alongside a sponsored walk to Millwall FC.
Promotion winning 2006 skipper John Mackie played in the match, along with fellow ex-O’s’ Mark Cooper and Lee Harvey.
A tight match contained a few comic moments, and it needed penalties to decide a winner for the third time in as many years.
Pete Ranger, Mickey Bacon, Danny Yeo and, naturally, Lee Harvey all netted their spot kicks for ‘Ear.
Then LOFT ratched up the tension when Oli Button, Joe Durston, Ian Batten and, naturally, John Mackie all did the same.
So it was literally sudden death going into the final shots. The Ear went first, and Tom Jones blazed his effort over the crossbar.
Rory Duffy stayed cool and netted with his effort, winning the trophy for LOFT for the year on the trot.
Afterwards, organiser Joe Durston said: “We would like to thank all those of gave up their time, money, goods, skills and knowledge to make the walk and the game and evening on May 15 the success it was”.
The Dale Jacobs Trophy is an annual event which is named after and played in memory of an Orient fan who died of bowel cancer in 2008.
