Defender Ben Chorley swapped Spain for Chigwell to collect Leyton Orient's player of the year award this week.
He jetted in from holiday to be at the Prince Regent hotel for the presentation evening.
The 27-year-old centre-back told Guardian Series Sport: “It was nice and a bit surprising for me to win.
“I came back from Spain for the dinner because the fans pay their money and it’s a big night, so I did not want to be one of those players who was not there."
Striker Scott McGleish was the player of the year, as picked by the supporters’ club.
Tamika Mkandawire won the players’ player of the year prize, as he mulls over a new contract offer by Orient.
“I think Tam’s played well,” Chorley said of his fellow defender.
“And Charlie Daniels has been good too, so I did not expect much.
“But I had a half-decent season, and you never know how these things are going to go."
And it seems Chorley might add taxi driver to his list of roles, next season.
That is because the family of George Porter live near him.
“George lives down the road from me,” he said.
“He’s a raw talent and he’s been playing for the reserves, and scoring as well. So hopefully it will work out for him."
With a year left on his current contract, Chorley expects a host of new team-mates at the club next season.
“We have only about eight professionals at the moment, as was evident at the dinner, so there’s been a clean-out by the new manager,” Chorley said.
“I’m sure that he and the chairman will want to bring in some quality new players."
