DEAN COX wants to show his class at Orient and prove wrong the Brighton boss who snubbed him, last season.
The twenty two year-old midfielder is highly rated by O's boss Russell Slade who has brought him to Brisbane Road on a two year deal.
“I had a few options from other League One clubs, but I’ve worked with Russell Slade before and I’m looking forwards to teaming up with him” Cox told Guardian Series Sport.
“I’ve never seen anything like him before in terms of his man management skills. It was not a hard choice at all. ”
Cox was a first team regular during Slade’s tenure as Brighton and Hove Albion boss, when the club somehow beat relegation down to League Two, in 2009.
But things turned sour for him at the Withdean Stadium when Gus Poyet became Seagulls boss, last November.
“I played the first five games and then fell out of favour. I spent six months sitting in the stands” said Cox.
“I tried to get out on loan to Orient last season, but the boss wouldn’t let me go. I have no idea why he did it, maybe to wind me up!”
Now Cox has the chance to show the Seagulls what they are missing, when the teams clash in League One, next season.
Cox is relishing those matches, just like the Orient fans who have a strong rivalry with the seaside club.
“I cannot wait for that game” he said.
“As soon as Russell Slade got on the phone, I was on my way over.”
Slade explained what Cox will bring to Orient.
“He has a great energy and attitude and a real desire to win. His enthusiasm is infectious and will rub off on the other players” he told club sources.
