George Porter wants the “Charlie Austin” effect in his debut season as a professional at Brisbane Road.
Austin took League One by storm last year, scoring 19 times after his move from Poole Town. They play even lower down the non-leagues than Porter's ex-club, Cray Wanderers.
The 17-year-old told Guardian Series Sport he is inspired by Austin, as he gears up to make an impact at Orient next season.
“I’ve seen a lot of his games. I went to the final against Millwall when he was playing for Swindon and he played really well.”
“I’ve been looking at his progress all year and you can take a lot of inspiration from players like that.”
Porter admitted he has no idea how many chances he will get to emulatae Austin, while Orient's generously proportioned strike force fight for just two starting places.
“I’m really happy with the move. I’ve just been over the moon since it happened.”
“I’m not sure if I’ll definitely be playing at the moment. I’ll just have to see how it goes, train hard and then see what the manager says.”
The O’s glimpsed Porter’s raw pace this week during opening pre-season friendlies, but he insists he is not only a speed merchant.
“The fans can expect a bit of pace, but they just need to know that I’m going to give 110 per cent every time I step out onto the pitch for Orient.”
