ORIENT pulled off one of the shocks of the third round with victory at Carrow Road this afternoon.
The Canaries have been flying in the Championship in recent weeks, but the League One O's shot them out of the FA Cup thanks to a first-half Jimmy Smith header.
Though the Londoners had to withstand a lot of pressure in the second half, they defended gallantly and were good value for the win.
In fact, keeper Jamie Jones did not have a huge amount to do, which highlighted just how well the visitors defended.
This game was not high on the list of possible shocks, but Orient were really up for it and battled from start to finish.
The O's now go into the hat for tomorrow's fourth-round draw.
Orient boss Russell Slade made two changes from the side that beat Colchester United, with Terrell Forbes and Jonathan Tehoue coming into the starting line-up.
It was a decent start by the O's and Smith forced keeper Declan Rudd into a good save with a shot on the turn after ten minutes.
But it got even better ten minutes later. Dean Cox was played down the left and his cross was met by the head of Smith. This time his bullet header found the top corner, giving Rudd little chance. It was a superb finish.
There was a blow for Orient on 25 minutes, when Elliott Omozusi hobbled off, but the Canaries were still struggling to get going, David Fox dragging a shot well wide.
There was a better effort from Wes Hoolahan on 38 minutes, but Jamie Jones got down well to save his shot.
At the other end, Tehoue got up at the far post but failed to get his head on to the ball following a Charlie Daniels corner. If he had, it would have almost certainly been number two.
Aaron Wilbraham almost sneaked the ball in at the near post for Norwich, but it was deflected wide. Leon Barnett was also just off target with a header from the resulting corner.
The Canaries started the second half strongly and Forbes had to head over his own bar to prevent Wilbraham from netting at the far post.
The ball fell kindly for Fox on the hour, but his half-volley was a couple of feet wide of the post.
City were now starting to turn the screw, but the O's were defending well.
Chris Martin found himself in a good position for the hosts, but his 20-yard shot was well off target.
Martin then just failed to reach an Anthony McNamee cross at the far post as the Canaries continued to press.
Orient had few chances after the break, but sub Paul-Jose M'Poku saw a shot deflected just over with ten minutes to go.
In the final minute of stoppage time, McNamee curled an effort goalwards, but Jones dived to push the ball behind and Orient were in round four of the FA Cup.
ORIENT: Jones; Omozusi (Whing 25), Chorley, Forbes, Daniels; Revell, Smith, Spring, Dawson, Cox (M'Poku 57); Tehoue (McGleish 71). Subs not used: Butcher, Brown, Chambers, Kane.
Attendance: 18,087.
