A CLEAROUT of the playing squad was vital for victory over Leyton, claims Forest FC boss Olawale Ojalabi.
Just two players are left of the squad from before he arrived at Cricklefields, during the new year.
“The mentality is good now. Before it was not good enough, it wasn’t right.
“The players told me they wanted out. I was glad to see them go,” he told Guardian Series Sport.
“I’ve strengthened the team and they all know why they are here.
“The boys need to be raring to pull up their socks and they did that, which is great.”
The 1-0 win over Leyton lifted Forest off of the foot of Ryman one north for the first time in ages.
Ojalabi was happy to banish memories of a heavy defeat by East Thurrock on his debut.
“I personally did not want to make it two defeats on the bounce.
“It’s a good feeling to be off the bottom of the table, but it’s ‘slowly and surely’ at the moment.
“We have to keep believing in ourselves.”
Next up is fellow strugglers Ilford this weekend, when Forest will be visitors at their own ground.
Ilford own Cricklefields, where Forest have lodged in recent seasons.
“Every game is different and it depends who wants it the most,” said Ojalabi.
“I think we have to keep winning and not drop points and that will be hard. But I think it's do-able (avoiding relegation).
“I’m still looking at strengthening the side.”
