A “magnificent day for the club” was hailed by boss Russell Slade as Orient marched into round five of the FA Cup by dumping out Championship hosts Swansea, today.
“It’s unbelievable really,” he said. “I don’t know how we did it at times.
“We managed somehow to stay in the game during the first half which was the main thing. We’re absolutely delighted.”
Against the run of play, Jimmy Smith headed the east Londoners in front at the Liberty Stadium on 35 minutes, before Van Der Gun levelled for the Swans on the stroke of half-time.
But a deserved late slice of luck for Orient saw Tate slice into his own net late on, to seal passage for Orient.
Slade savoured the team-spirit of his players.
“Everyone cares about what happens out there. Nobody wanted to get humiliated. We weren’t going down without a fight.
“The fans are really enjoying the Cup and have been right behind us. We responded to them and it’s a magnificent day for the club.”
