Former O’s striker Alex Revell said it was a “hard decision” to leave Brisbane Road but the security of a longer deal was a big factor in persuading him to join Rotherham United.
Revell put pen-to-paper on a two-year-deal with the Millers on transfer deadline day last week, ending his 16-month association with Orient.
The 28-year-old insisted it was a hard decision to make but wanted to extend his thanks to the O’s fans for the support they showed him during his time in E10.
He said: “I had a really good time. It was a really good year last year where I had to come in and prove myself.
“But with this year being a bit different, not to do with the start, but Rotherham offered me a two year deal.”
He continued: “We were nice and settled where we were but you are only in it (football) for a certain amount of time and the security of having two years behind me is massive and the drive that the club have got is another massive thing.”
Revell had been involved in all of Orient’s games this season prior to being left out of last week’s Carling Cup win against Bristol Rovers.
His switch north was confirmed the following day but the move caught many off guard owing to his involvement in the first team throughout August.
“It did happen quickly. It was just one of those things that came up and I had a decision to make,” said Revell.
“Obviously I was kind of hoping something might happen with Orient in the summer.”
He added: “To me now, I know that I am here for the next two years. It is a massive club and there is potential and I want to be a part of that.
Revell wanted to stress his gratitude to the fans who supported him during his time at Orient and believes they will soon have something to cheer about, believing that his former team-mates are more than capable of turning around their early season form.
“They were brilliant last year. It was a good year – It was amazing,” said the forward of the O’s fans.
“Hopefully the lads will get out of the situation and I am sure they will. The squad is easily good enough to be in the top six.”
Despite only linking up with his new team-mates a couple of days previously, the former Brighton & Hove Albion and Southend United man made his mark immediately, bagging two goals on his debut for his new club.
His own search for a first league win of the season continues however, after the Millers were downed 3-2 at Swindon Town.
“We were disappointed with the result but the most important thing now is how we bounce back. Like I said, hopefully I can help them.”
