Russell Slade hailed the impact of the Orient youngsters after they helped the E10 side round off the campaign with a 2-1 home victory against Rochdale.

The O’s dominated much of the match and eventually secured the lead when Dean Cox grabbed his ninth of the season.

Moses Odubajo was handed a start at right back and the 18-year-old didn’t disappoint as he drove forward to score a goal of the season candidate to double the advantage.

Reece Gray pulled one back for Dale late on but it was not enough to spoil the party as Orient brought the curtain down in style.

Billy Lobjoit and Afolabi Obafemi both impressed following their introduction from the bench in the second period and Slade moved to praise the impact of the young trio.

The manager explained: “Obviously I was pleased with the young lads – particularly Moses who made his debut today at right back.

“He played there for me in pre-season in Finland. He had a couple of games there and he did ok so we had no fears about putting him at right back.

“He likes to get forward from that position and so he did two or three times in the first half. With the second or third opportunity he got he has whammed it into the back of the net with his left foot. That was fantastic.”

He continued: “It could even be the goal of the season for us. It was a fantastic goal and I am really really pleased for him.

“It was nice to get a win in front of our fans because they have had to suffer too many defeats and too many below par performances.

“Today I thought we could have won the game more comfortably. I thought we created opportunity after opportunity, particularly in the first period. We didn’t put the game quite beyond them but it is still nice to get the win.”
