Swindon Town have continued to support manager Paolo Di Canio following further revelations regarding allegations of racial abuse made by Leyton Orient’s Jonathan Téhoué.
According to BBC Sport, the Robins privately admitted that a comment made by Di Canio to Téhoué was “inappropriate”.
The French striker joined the League Two champions on loan from Orient in March but featured just three times for the Wiltshire side.
A statement earlier this month from Swindon said the complaint from Téhoué had been investigated and that the club was satisfied it was “without merit”.
However, according to the BBC, Swindon’s solicitor wrote in response to Téhoué’s lawyers in April, saying: “The club wishes to make it clear that it does not condone the reference made by Mr Di Canio during training on 29 March to your client.”
The documents obtained by the BBC read: “The club accepts that the use of this phrase was inappropriate and apologises to your client for any upset that this has caused him.”
It added: “Mr Di Canio wishes to apologise for the comments, which he did not intend to cause offence by.
“This apology is hereby repeated and the club also regrets that the comment was made by Mr Di Canio.”
However, Swindon told the BBC last night: “Swindon Town FC reaffirm the content of the statement that was issued on 15 May and has no further comment to make at this time.
“The matter is the subject of an on-going FA review, which the club is fully supporting.”
Téhoué is set to be released by Orient this summer after he was told he would not be offered a new contract in E10.
