Former Leyton Orient boss Geraint Williams has been appointed manager of the Welsh Under-21 side.

The 50-year-old took the reins at Brisbane Road in February 2009 and remained with the club until April 2010, with current boss Russell Slade taking the helm shortly after.

Williams won 13 caps for Wales during his career and succeeds Brian Flynn in the role after he left the post after eight years.

The former Colchester United boss will also take charge of the Under-17 and Under-19 sides but his first match with the Under-21s will be against Armenia in Wrexham in a European Championship qualifier next month.

A statement on The Football Association of Wales’ website read: “The FAW is delighted to welcome Geraint Williams as the new Intermediate Teams Manager.”
