Ilford Catholic beat Leyton Orient Supporters Cricket Club by 66 runs.
An excellent century stand between Aditya Panoli and Saravana Subramani saw Ilford Catholic secure the victory at Barkingside Recreation Ground on Sunday.
After some excellent work in the morning to prepare the pitch from the previous day’s downpour the ground was declared fit to play, and on a slowly drying wicket Ilford Catholic were inserted to bat first.
Aditya Panoli and Sulosan Thiru made a steady start before Thiru was trapped LBW early by left arm seamer Dan Auton who was getting good swing and movement with the new ball.
Louis Morgan fell soon after for two, bowled by Harry Auton, but Saravana Subramani joined Panoli and the pair begun to increase the run rate with a series of boundaries.
Panoli built his innings well and took advantage of the short ball smashing several boundaries through mid wicket and square leg, and together with Subramani they put on a brilliant 116 partnership striking seven sixes and 12 fours between them.
Subramani was eventually out for 62, bowled by Dan Auton, and next man in Senthu Tharmalingham top edged his first ball to be dismissed for nought, brilliantly caught by Alan Wicks at fine leg. Panoli continued his innings but fell agonisingly short of a great century for 92 to a superb catch from Matt Hiscock at mid off.
With a late flurry of runs from Romi, including some audacious reverse sweeps, Catholic finished on 207 from their 40 overs.
Orient Supporters' Dan Auton was the pick of the bowlers with great figures of five for 21 from his eight overs, well supported by younger brother Harry Auton (one for 16).
In reply, the Orient Supporters quickly lost veteran Bob James, bowled by Vasi Tharmalingham for nought. Ed Tooth joined Martin Riches and they put on a steady stand of 59 against some tight Catholic bowling from Anujan Thiru and Senthuran Tharmalingham.
Riches was trapped LBW for 23 and the Supporters were tied down by some accurate Catholic bowling. Youngster Louis Morgan bowled a great five over spell, only going for nine runs, and along with Romi kept the opposition behind the run rate.
Catholic then made inroads into the Supporters line-up with Mathinthan taking the scalp of Kumar and Revell bowled by a great incutter from Romi.
Matt Hiscock offered some resistance with a quickfire 26, in a stand of 57 with Tooth, but was dismissed by Sinthu Tharmalingham and Tooth eventually departed for 75, also bowled by Tharmalingham.
Thiru then re-entered the Catholic attack and quickly picked up two deserved wickets and the supporters eventually finished well short of the target on 141 for nine from their 40 overs.
