It’s been more than two months since Leyton Orient last took to the field but the wait for a return to action ends tonight when Russell Slade takes his new-look side to Sutton United.

The fixture against the Blue Square Bet South outfit is Orient’s first friendly match of the pre-season schedule and could provide supporters with a first glimpse of a number of new faces.

This week alone, Slade has already doubled the number of summer signings recruited to the E10 ranks, with four arrivals in three days adding to the quartet who had already been brought in.

Former Southampton and Colchester United man Lloyd James became the latest new addition to the squad when he agreed a two-year deal earlier today and could join Anthony Griffith in midfield.

There are also new options in defence for the O’s with Gary Sawyer, Mathieu Baudry and Nathan Clarke having been lured to Brisbane Road while former Millwall and West Bromwich Albion glovesman Ryan Allsop could provide competition for Jamie Jones.

Up front, Michael Symes has been recruited as a target man for Orient and Slade added to his forward options yesterday with the capture of Stoke City youngster Ryan Brunt on loan.

As well as potentially providing a debut for the new signings, tonight’s match could see an injured duo return to action.

Scott Cuthbert and David Mooney both finished last season on the sidelines but the pair have been back in training with the squad this month.

Goalkeeper Lee Butcher however, is still out after he suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury in February.

Sutton came close to securing successive promotions last season but fell short in the play-offs, losing out to Welling United in the semi final.

The U’s boast three former Orient players in their ranks, with ‘keeper Tom Lovelock recently linking up with Harry Beautyman and Simon Downer at Gander Green Lane.
