Scott Wagstaff hopes to repay Russell Slade’s faith in him after joining Leyton Orient on loan from Charlton Athletic.

The 22-year-old winger agreed a one-month deal at Brisbane Road on Friday and made his debut at Bournemouth the following day.

Wagstaff has been in the wilderness at Charlton this season and jumped at the chance to get some first-team football under his belt with Slade’s side.

Wagstaff, who also played during last night's win over Hartlepool United, said: “He’s brilliant [Slade]. When I spoke to him on Friday he was really enthusiastic to take me on loan and hopefully I can repay him by putting in a few good performances for him.

“Obviously I’m delighted to be playing again. That’s what I want to be doing and that’s why I came out on loan to Leyton Orient.

“I jumped at the opportunity to come here. I said I’m going to give 110 per cent in every game for him and that’s what I’m going to be doing. Hopefully I can get a good run of games now.”

Wagstaff’s only other appearance this season, prior to his Orient debut, actually came against the O’s during Charlton’s Capital One defeat back in August.

The verstatile attacker netted for the Addicks but he has not featured during his parent club’s Championship campaign.

Wagstaff said: “I’ve had a few good games against Orient and a bad one as well when I came off after two minutes. Hopefully I will have a good loan spell here and we can push on up the table.”

Reflecting on a difficult first appearance for the club where he was starved of the ball, he said: “It was my first game for a very long time. That was at the beginning of the season and I haven’t played since then.

“I don’t want to be sitting at home doing nothing or not even getting on the bench. “It’s been a bit frustrating but now hopefully I can get a good run of games and get some decent performances in.

“From what I’ve seen in training we’ve definitely got a good enough squad to push forward. Obviously we didn’t really show it against Bournemouth but hopefully we can get a good run of wins in.

“We were disappointed that we didn’t keep it at a draw at the end of the day.

“There were two sloppy goals that we gave away and overall we could have got a draw out of the game which we should have done. Now we’re going to work on a few things and get back on it.”

Wagstaff, who has also had loan spells at Bournemouth and Northwich Victoria, is keeping his options open as far as what the future holds following the end of his short stay at Brisbane Road.

He said: “We’ll have to wait and see how it goes. “Obviously I want to do as well as I can for Russell Slade and Leyton Orient.

“If I do play well and they want to keep me then that’s down to the Charlton manager as well.

“We’ll see what happens but I’m just happy to be playing again and I want to do as well as I can over the next month.”

Wagstaff continued: “I just want to be playing games again. I obviously ply my trade out wide but the gaffer said he wants to play me up front.

“I’ve enjoyed little spells up front at Charlton as well so hopefully I can get a few goals and we can push up the league.”
