Fourth XI Premier Division
An excellent all-round batting display saw Wanstead Fifths beat Harold Wood Fourths by 89 runs.
Wanstead declared on 236 for six as seven out of the top eight made double figures, with openers Andrew Osborn (52) and Michael Griesel (58) scoring highest.
That total proved too much for Wood, who were bowled out for 147. Finlay Chesney-Brown (three for 20) and Afrasiyab Malik (four for 11) were the pick of the bowlers for the Fifths, who play Woodford Green away on Saturday.
Chingford Fourths sealed a four-wicket win over Pegasus & Corringham Thirds.
The Fourths declared seven wickets down on 181 before four wickets from Adam Ferdinand helped bowl out Pegasus for 150.
Chingford Fourths are away to Upminster Fifths on Saturday.
Woodford Green Thirds were held by Stanford Le Hope.
Stanford batted first and scored 211 for seven from their innings. Joshua Carr claimed three for 43, with Syed Shah taking two for 31.
In reply, Woodford Green were fortunate to earn a draw as they struggled to 139 for nine. Nilesh Soni hit 43 but the rest of the batsmen found it tough going.
Fourth XI Division One
Fives and Heronians Fourths lost to Chelmsford Fifths by 140 runs despite five wickets from Wang Jing.
The bowler’s fine display kept Chelmsford to 180 but that was more than enough as Fives slumped to 40 all out.
Fives Fourths are away to Epping Thirds on Saturday.
Epping Thirds lost by 82 runs to Horndon on the Hill.
Horndon eased to a total of 231 for five from their innings, while Epping were dismissed for just 149 in 44 overs.
Old Parkonians Thirds lost at home to Buckhurst Hill by 87 runs.
A lengthy spell by Nav Kalley with three for 44 and two wickets for 11 in four overs by Ronan Karuna kept Buckhurst Hill’s score within reason.
But this proved deceptive as batting was shown to be more than awkward after the tea break as they scored 184 for seven.
Opener Andrew Beaven (22) kept things together for a while but when he and Gurmit Bhatia, batting well for 35, fell at 75 for five, the writing was on the wall.
Only skipper Nick Thorpe (14) showed any real resistance thereafter as the game went to the bowlers and Parks were all out for 97.
Fourth XI Division Three
Old Parkonians Fourths won by four wickets at Hainault & Clayhall.
Parks skipper Vijay Vijayanathan won the toss and elected to field as the wicket was still a damp from the overnight rain.
It turned out to be a good decision as Hainault & Clayhall lost two early wickets within the first five overs thanks to a good opening spell of accurate line and and length bowling from Adam Goldman (two for 31) and Nimanka De Silva (three for 33).
A good fielding performance from Parks included two fine catches from Pirra Vigneswarathas at point to restrict the total to 137 all out in 38 overs. In reply, Tony Keen and David Tack batted cautiously, keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
At the beginning of the last hour of play, Parks were 68 for four, needing another 70 runs. Keen played a valuable innings of 51 and was well supported by Goldman (16) to bring the score close to the target.
Parks still needed 20 off the last four overs, and Vigneswarathas played a vital role with 12 to secure the victory. South Woodford Fifths set a target of 160 but it wasn’t enough as they lost to Ilford Fifths by seven wickets.
Woodford Fifths are home to Old Southendian & Southchurch Fifths on Saturday.
Loughton Fifths chased down Chingford Fifths’ total of 132 with only one wicket to spare.
Chingford’s William Burke top-scored with 44 but Loughton reached their target thanks to battling innings from tail-enders Kanwar Greywal and Mahmad Ali Khail.
On Saturday, Loughton Fifths travel to Southend-on-Sea, while Chingford Fifths are at home to Orsett Fifths.
