Chingford Under-15s bounced back from a disappointing defeat to Upminster by beatinng Romford & Gidea Park 27-10 in a friendly on Sunday.

After fending off some early Chingford attacks, Romford applied some pressure of their own and forced a way through the opposition defence to take an early lead.

Only a combination of fearless tackling from forwards Junaid Mir and Bobby Edwards and some poor Romford decision-making kept Chingford from falling further behind.

Gradually Chingford started to gain a foothold in the game and the visitors levelled the score when Ethan Penfold finished off a sweeping backs move by scuttling over for a deserved try.

A strong run soon after from winger Sean Parker was only stopped by an excellent tackle but moments later Conner Hurst made a 50-metre break to go over and put Chingford into a 10-5 half-time lead.

With more established players taking to the field in the second half, Chingford took control and number eight Bobby Edwards capped a man-of-the-match performance as he peeled off the back of the scrum to power over the line and extend the lead to 15-10.

Romford bravely managed to haul themselves back into the game with a try from Ben Shilts to take them back to within five points but Chingford didn’t waver.

Tries by Andreas Constantinou and Daniel Linton were ruled out by the referee before George Langley prevented two scores at the other end with two fine tackles.

Chingford then put the result beyond doubt as centre Josh Oranu-Noah broke the Romford resistance to go over line for a final score.
