A sixty-year-old East London Runner chopped an impressive ten minutes off his personal best at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday.

Tom Woods, pictured, crossed the line in 3.53.16 which should spur him on as he now looks ahead to the New York Marathon in three weeks’ time.

Closer to home at half the distance, Euan Brown also recorded a personal best at the Great Eastern Half Marathon in Peterborough.

Brown’s 1.15.09 was enough to see him finish 40th, just a day after he came first in the Wanstead Flats 5km parkrun with a time of 17.50.

James Wilson (19.12) came sixth, while Laura Jenkins was the first woman home in a time of 22.52. She finished 19th overall.

Mark Boulton came fifth at the ten-mile race in Ware with a time of 1.02.39, while Sarah McCrea was the fourth woman to finish in 1.12.56. McCrea came 41st overall.

In the latest round of the Chingford League, Patrick Brown led the way with a time of 27.00 which saw him finish tenth.

Not far behind was Andrew Baxter (29.42), Lee Wollaston (33.12), Peter Hatley (33.49) and Celia Payaneeandee (36.47).

At the Walthamstow 5km parkrun, Alex Haward broke the tape in a time of 19.53. Richard Guest was only three places back in fourth, stopping the clock on 21.03.

Sarah Burns was the first woman to finish at the Barnstaple 5km parkun. Her time of 22.59 saw her come 18th overall.
