Crostyx Ladies first team strengthened their position at the top of East Women’s Hockey League Division C after an emphatic 3-0 win over rivals Sudbury on Saturday.
A pin-point pass from Laura Feldman found Sarah Belsham, who started an incisive passing move which allowed Alys Hackett to unleash a shot past the keeper to give Crostyx a 1-0 advantage.
Sudbury responded well to going behind, peppering the Crostyx goal, only to be denied by in-form goalkeeper Rosie Batchelor.
Crostyx added to their lead after the break as a dummy from Feldman created space for Kat Hawes to give the home side a two-goal advantage.
Victory was secured soon after when a short corner fell to Donna Blockley, who clinically finished in off the post.
Croystx will be hoping to continue their inspired form this weekend away at Christchurch.
The Ladies Seconds slumped to a 7-0 defeat against Redbridge and Ilford despite a spirited performance.
The men’s first team lost 4-0 to Cambridge, who remain unbeaten and top of the East Men’s Hockey League Premier B table.
An encouraging start from the visitors gave Crostyx hope of an upset but it was the hosts who took the lead and proceeded to build a 4-0 cushion before half-time.
Crostyx came out all guns blazing in the second period and were unfortunate not to reduce the deficit before the final whistle blew.
The men host Long Sutton on Saturday.
There was however victory for the men’s Seconds, who overcame Thurrock 3-2 at home.
Thurrock took an early lead after a defensive mix-up but their opponents came back strong and when a short corner was won by the slippery skills of Gavin Dixon, Matthew Rowland needed no second invitation to score from a direct strike.
Aaron Phillips, Mike Fished, Richard Amos and James Mackay were resolute in defence and Nicky Duck finished off a slick move to put Crostyx 2-1 up at half-time.
Thurrock pulled themselves back into the game but Duck finished emphatically to score his second and Styx’s third to seal victory.
The Seconds travel to Witham on Saturday.
