Essex League Premier Division
Wanstead and Snaresbrook beat Chelmsford by six wickets on Saturday under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Having won the toss, visitors Wanstead elected to bowl first, putting their opponents into bat.
With rain reducing the match to 46 overs a side, Chelmsford reached 163 for three before heavy rain halted the hosts’ innings.
Nick Prowting top-scored with an unbeaten knock of 82, whilst Jack Sherland added 43 before being run out.
Kishen Velani took two for 26 for the visitors.
Set a rain-reduced target of 134 from 20 overs, Wanstead reached their target with six wickets in hand off of 17.2 overs.
Velani was Wanstead’s top-scorer with 50 not out, Jonathan Das scoring 34.
Nisarg Patel was one of four Chelmsford wicket-takers, conceding 11 runs from his 2.2 overs.
South Woodford suffered a 43-run defeat at the hands of Upminster in a rain-affected match.
Hosts South Woodford won the toss and put Upminster into bat first.
Both sides saw their innings reduced to 29 overs, with Upminster faring the better as they set a target of 120.
Opener Fardid Butt top-scored with an unbeaten 67 and Billy Gordon hit 20.
Gary Neicho’s figures of one for 18 made him Woodford’s most effective bowler.
The hosts struggled with the bat, making just 77 for nine in their 29 overs.
Unbeaten knocks at the tail-end from Neicho (21) and Matthew Lancaster (10) spared some of Woodford’s blushes but they were comfortably beaten.
Shafiq Rahman took three for 11, whilst Oliver Peck claimed three for 15.
Chingford saw their game with Shenfield fall foul of the weather after just three overs.
Division One
West Essex lost out by seven wickets at Belhus.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting up a target of 168 all out from 45.3 overs.
Zia Anwar (37) was West Essex’s top-scorer, with Ayaz Qureshi adding 32.
Danny Norris took two for 17 for Belhus, whilst Connor Day chipped in with three for 45.
Belhus reached their target of 169 for the loss of just three wickets, without requiring their full allowance of 46 overs.
Mat Lewis Jnr. scored 51 not out and Joe Joyce 48 to ease Belhus to victory.
Arshad Mughal took two for 20 for West Essex, with the other wicket a run out.
Woodford Wells’ clash against Buckhurst Hill was abandoned after 20 overs.
Batting first, Buckhurst reached 48 for two before the decision was taken to abandon the game.
Atif Zafar had been unbeaten on 20.
Division Two
Fives and Heronians won by four wickets at Leigh on Sea.
Put into bat first, Leigh finished with a competitive total of 212 all out.
Rob Catchpole scored 55 and opener Stuart Elliott hit 46 for the hosts.
Kishen Patel excelled with the ball for Fives, taking five for 37.
In reply, Fives hit 215 for six, despite the best efforts of Leigh’s Sean Elliott.
Terry Ballard was dismissed for 87 and Mick Perry was unbeaten on 55 for Fives.
Elliott took five of Leigh’s six wickets, conceding 100 runs in the process.
Division Three
Epping suffered a comprehensive 68-run defeat at Stanford Le Hope.
Having lost the toss, Stanford were put into bat first and posted a total of 200 for nine before declaring.
Adam Knight top-scored with 44 for the hosts, with opener Kevin Smith notching 33.
Ali Raza was Epping’s top wicket taker, helping himself to five for 41.
In response, the visitors were only able to muster 132 before being removed.
Manish Patel scored 27 to add to Salah Uddin Quadir’s 32.
Ross Poulton was the most effective Stanford bowler, taking four for 28.
Woodford Green drew at home to Basildon and Pitsea after failing to bowl their visitors out.
Basildon won the toss and put the hosts into bat first.
Reaching 136 for three, Woodford declared to give themselves the best opportunity of dismissing their opponents.
Rana Arslan top-scored with an unbeaten 74 and Anthony Palmer added 34 for the hosts.
Anand Kumar Ganesan took two for 49 for Basildon.
The visitors’ reply amounted to 126 for eight as they held on to take a draw.
Lloyd Lambert (38) and Ganesan (31) were two of just three batsmen to reach double figures.
Haroon Hafeez took an impressive three for 17 for Woodford but it was not enough.
Herts and Essex League Division One
Ilford Catholic fell 11 runs short against Theydon Bois in a reduced 35-over match on Saturday.
Theydon batted first and openers Pienaar (35) and Waqas (33) added 55 for the first wicket. John Rogers (two for 36) picked up the wickets of both openers but Liam Fearns (31) and Rob Bullivant (27) added further runs at a good rate.
With breaks for rain, Theydon finished well pushing the score to 177 for eight in the final overs. Ravi Ramanuja was the star bowler for Catholic with figures of four for 33.
In reply, Catholic lost early wickets and found themselves in dire trouble at 20 for four, with Ward (9) and Abbas Saleem (2) bowled by Bullivant and Marsh (2) and Tooth (0) caught behind from Ali.
Vince Mulholland (6) then also fell to Bullivant to make it 37 for five but a fine stand of 61 between Sarankan Skandmoorthy (38) and captain Liam Mulholland (20) added some respectability to the score to take it to the 100 mark.
With the score on 102 for seven, the game was almost over for Catholic until an incredible innings from Abdul Wahab, who smashed 55 to leave the batting side with 13 needed from the last over to win.
Unfortunately for his side, Wahab was caught at long on from the first ball of the last over and then Ramanuja was stumped to leave Catholic 11 runs short.
Conference Cup Round One
Chingford returned to action on Sunday but were beaten by seven wickets against Aston Rowant.
Electing to bat first, Chingford posted a total of 208 for seven.
Paul Shawyer (52), Liam Lannen (32 not out) and Ryan Harris (26) were key in the hosts reaching a respectable score.
Nicholas Ferraby took two for 26 for the visitors.
Aston made light work of reaching their target, scoring 210 for three.
Richard Cook scored 80 before being bowled leg before wicket and William Whittell was unbeaten on 76.
Sean Green took two for 34 but Chingford could not make any real inroads.
Fives and Heronians won by three wickets at home against Tunbridge Wells.
Put into bat first, Tunbridge reached 233 for seven in 45 overs.
Jamie Baldwin top-scored with 87 and Christopher Williams weighed in with 45.
Greg Summers took two for 36 for Fives.
The hosts reach their target of 234 with three wickets to spare.
Mick Perry smashed 89 with Pete Kilpatrick chipping in with 51.
Alexander Williams claimed four for 30 for the visitors.
