Second XI Premier Division

A dramatic run chase between Wanstead and Snaresbrook Seconds and Brentwood Seconds ended in a draw.

Hosts Brentwood fell two runs short of surpassing their visitors’ total, as Wanstead posted 235 all out.

Steven Ramdial top-scored for Wanstead with 35 and was supported by Saurav Prabhakar (35) and 34 each from Mahesh Velani and Jack Lord.

Paul Degg led the bowling attack, taking four for 62 in 11 overs.

Chris Boon Snr opened the Brentwood innings with 55 and 35 from James Welham moved the score along.

At the tail-end, Degg was dismissed for a duck though, and Richard Whitehall could not open his account before time ran out with the hosts on 234 for nine.

Jahanser Akbar was leading wicket-taker for the home side, finishing with four for 49.

Wanstead’s second draw of the season leaves them in second place.

South Woodford Seconds took full advantage to win by nine wickets at home to Buckhurst Hill Seconds.

Having opted to bat first, the visitors started well enough and George Hick struck 38.

Prashant Chand-Bajpai made 35 as the third man into bat but the next seven wickets yielded just 29 runs as Buckhurst were removed for 134.

James Malin tore into the visitors’ line-up with five wickets for just 22.

In reply, Michael Browne (three) lost his wicket early before Ashley Leat (86) and Simon Correya (45) put on a strong showing to see South Woodford home.

Tamid Uddin took the sole wicket for the visitors.

Chingford Seconds fell to a two-wicket defeat at Chelmsford Seconds.

Electing to bat first, the visitors were in trouble at 39 for three.

Billy Rhone (60) and Truptesh Patel (39) steadied the ship and helped Chingford to 176 for nine before declaring.

Stuart Everard was the leading wicket taker for the hosts, claiming four for 83.

Chelmsford began in a similarly shaky fashion but 72 from Gary Chidley provided the foundations as they reached 177 with two wickets in hand.

Liam Lannen took four for 54 but his efforts were in vain.

Second XI Division One

Daniel Gymer’s half-century helped Loughton Seconds to a 27-run win at home to Woodford Wells Seconds.

Batting first, Loughton were bowled out for 178 with Gymer making 52 to top score.

Ashfaq Parvez added 24 and Fahad Anwar hit 23 but Brian Schofield tore into the hosts’ line-up, taking five for 36.

Nicholas Sims got the Woodford innings off to a false start, dismissed for a duck before Dean Majeed (31) and C.Campbell (22) took over.

The visitors could not get going with the bat though and were bowled out for 151.

Jordan Ramsden was the most effective bowler for Loughton. He took three for 51.

Fives and Heronians Seconds held on for a draw against Harlow Seconds, despite a huge knock of 144 from Alan Jones.

A big score from Jones helped the visitors to 278 for five before declaring with an imposing total.

James McKay took the three wickets for the home side.

Fives struggled with the bat but were able to hold out for a draw with a total of 156 for seven.

Hammad Baber top-scored with 45 for the hosts as Conor Ramsey finished with two for one.

Second XI Division Two

Ninety-four from Williams Spires condemned West Essex Seconds to a six-wicket loss at Hutton Seconds.

Omar Azfal hit 51 and Sunil Dwivedi scored 40 as the visitors were bowled out for 220.

Jonathan Mowll (three for 53) and Matthew Haigh (three for 54) were the pick of the Hutton bowlers.

In reply, Liam Taylor (66) and Haigh (54) built on Spires’ knock, helping the hosts reach a winning total of 226, losing just four wickets along the way.

Second XI Division Three

Epping Seconds failed to build on an encouraging start as they went down by nine wickets at Harlow Town Seconds.

Forty-six from opener Ramiz Miah provided cautious cause for optimism but the visitors collapsed to 125 all out.

Graham Eversden did the damage with figures of four for ten.

Bilal Ali (76) and Daniel Baldwin (40) provided the runs as Harlow raced to 127 for one.

Oakfield Parkonians Seconds suffered a three-wicket defeat at Basildon and Pitsea Thirds.

Parks lost the toss and were put into bat.

Wickets fell early but Paresh Kalley (57) and Tarun Bhatia (29) steadied the ship. Parks were removed for 224.

Basildon began their innings slowly and lost two early wickets but recovered well to reach 225 for seven.

Woodford Green Seconds held on to draw at home to Old Brentwoods Seconds.

The visitors reached 206 for nine from their overs, with Gurpal Lall (44) top-scoring.

Asad Ijaz was the star bowler for Woodford, taking three for 23.

Matthew Field’s knock of 67 made up for a slow start from the visitors, who failed to make use of the springboard and finished on 153 for seven.

Jonathan Miller was the most effective bowler for Brentwoods, taking four for 20.
