ABRIDGE teenager Jonathan Kurrant stepped up a level as he made his reserve team debut for Charlton on Tuesday.
Kurrant, 18, slotted into the back four as the Addicks beat Watford 2-1 at the Valley, with goals from Rurik Gislason and fellow debutant Rhys Coleman securing the points in the Barclays Reserve League South.
He never looked out of his depth pitched against Anthony McNamee, a player with Premiership experience and, after such a solid opener, looks sure to pick up more second-string outings in the near future.
The former Chigwell School pupil, described on the Charlton website as "durable, mobile and tenacious", can play at the back or in central midfield and was spotted by an Arsenal scout six years ago while playing for Roc in the Echo league.
He spent five years at the north London club but, when no players from his year were offered a scholarship, Chelsea, Charlton and Luton all expressed an interest.
Kurrant plumped for Charlton. Now in his second year, he said: "It seemed like a great opportunity."
