Epping Town’s new signing Calvin Petrie has received an international call-up for Montserrat.
The Caribbean Island, a British Overseas Territory, are set to play their first two CONCACAF Nations League matches against The Dominican Republic and St Lucia after a 2-1 win against the Cayman Islands in their qualifier back in March.
Petrie, 35, made his Montserrat debut in 2011 and had gone on to win six international caps.
He joined Epping this summer from Isthmian League Premier Division side Wingate & Finchley.
Epping manager Billy Cove said: “It’s an unbelievable achievement for Calvin.
“Everyone at the club wishes him well and it’s fantastic for the club to have one of its players representing their country.”
Due to the matches, Petrie will miss Epping’s Senior League Cup game at home to Corinthians on Saturday.
Epping also opened their Essex Olympian League Division Two campaign with an excellent 6-1 win away at AS Rawreth.
Town went behind midway through the first half but levelled through Glen Warwick’s penalty for a foul which also resulted in a red card.
They went on to dominate the second half as substitute Alex Parasekva scored a brace while Joey May, Brad Gayer and Patrick Duggan also found the net.
The club’s next game is the cup match against Corinthians this Saturday, which kicks off at 2.15pm at Stonnards Hill.
