TABLE TENNIS
WEST Essex League Division One leaders Woodford Wells A maintained their position at the top after beating Mossford B 8-2.
However, the star of the evening was promising youngster Lawrence Williams, who played an excellent attacking game to beat Glen Montgomery three games to one.
He also played very well against Martin Marcus, only losing in the deciding set after some excellent play, as well as taking the league's leading player Dave Page to a fourth set, which Lawrence narrowly lost 14-12.
His young compatriot Joe Butler also played well, although he was beaten by the greater experience of his opponents.
Gareth Williams, leading his team from the front, gave his team a great start by beating Martin Marcus in four close-fought sets in the first game.
Although he wasbeaten by Glen Montgomery in four sets, he managed to give Dave Page a very close match, only losing in the deciding set.
Page and Marcus beat their young opponents in the doubles to complete their win, which was much more difficult than the score suggests.
