ICE SKATING
GANTS Hill-based Eron Westwood got the ice skating season off to a solid start with a silver medal at the Romford open.
The ten-year-old took the sport up three years ago and has competed for two years. This was his third open.
Westwood trains twice a week at Lee Valley Ice Rink and mum Elaine said: "Eron is really dedicated to it.
"It is a very disciplined sport and takes a lot of time to learn all the jumps, spins and moves.
"But the foundations are there - he's done the hard part - so he just has to keep working on it."
The Clore Tivba School pupil is coached by Jono Partridge, one of the UK's top figure skating athletes.
And he is looking to learn as much as he can to stay on course to fufil his ambition of performing in the Olympics.
"Eron idolises him," Mrs Westwood said. "He is getting teachings from someone who is at the sharp edge."
Westwood's next Open competition will be at Lee Valley Ice Rink on Saturday, May 10.
