Brentwood Town 4
Waltham Abbey 0
(Ryman One North) WALTHAM Abbey were beaten by a much better side against Brentwood but were left ruling early missed opportunities, writes Nick Hodgskin. The Abbots began the game brightly and forced home stopper Marc Palmer to produce two excellent saves from Marc Sontag and Dean Perry in the opening ten minutes.
The home side took the lead against the run of play on 32 minutes after John Hickman failed to clear Danny Carroll's through ball and Michael Deane was left with the simple task of putting the ball into the empty net.
Joao Carlos doubled Brentwood's advantage four minutes later, and Ricky Holmes ended any hopes of an Abbey fight back after finishing neatly on 53 minutes.
Danny Carroll completed the rout by adding a fourth on 70 minutes.
However the Abbots refused to give up, and a Murat Karagul strike forced another good save from Palmer.
Captain Lee White said: "We need to create more chances for the lads upfront and when they get those chances, they need to be put away.
"We have to start getting some results for momentum to go into next season."
Abbots are at home to Bury Town on Saturday.
