SWIMMING
THE London Borough of Redbridge Swimming Club finished the four-block Essex Swimming Championships in a creditable third out of 25 teams.
Overall, the club took 55 golds, 27 silvers and 21 bronze medals, as well as an additional 50 positions in the top six.
Emily Cole was the star of the show, not only coming top in her age group, but also being crowned Top Overall BAGCAT performer.
Over the weekend, she came first in the 100m free and 1500 free, third in the 100m back and fourth in the 200m.
Craig Moate smashed his own 800m and 1500m free World records for the S14 category.
His time of 8mins 57secs beat the 800m record by five seconds, and his time in the 1500m (16 mins 53secs) smashed his record by a massive 22 seconds. He finished sixth overall in the 1500m.
Chris Inch was crowned top 15-year-old. He continued his dominance in the age group by winning the 100m back, 200m free (in a national qualifying time) and 1500m free, and achieved second in the 200m breast.
Phoebe Hayes was crowned top 16-year-old, coming first in the 200m back and 1500m free and achieving a personal best in the 100 fly, finishing fourth.
Charlie Dentith continued with his dominance in the 13-year-age group. He swam an amazing 1500m to win by 13 seconds, also winning the 100m breast and 200m breast. Denith also achieved another PB in the 200m free, finishing third.
Ivan Georgiev achieved top 14-year-old swimmer. He continued with his winning form, finishing first in the 200m free, second in the 100m breast, third in the 200m breast and fourth in the 1500m breast.
Sophie Copper had a fine weekend, winning the 200m back (NQT) and the 100m back. She also finished sixth in the 100m free.
Lawrence Brown won his first gold medal in the 200m free with a time of 2mins 14secs, just outside of the NQT.
Reece Barclay, having just joined the club, set the fastest 200m free time with a one-second PB.
Georgia Hunton Clarke (also just joined the club) finished second in the 200m back and set a PB in the 100m fly, finishing third.
Lucy Warner continued with her successful Essex campaign by finishing third in the 1500m, fifth in the 200m and sixth in the 100m back, and set a PB in the 100m free.
Chris Worby equaled his PB in the 200m breast, finishing second.
Kenneth Man smashed his 200m back PB, finishing second overall.
Samuel Kelly had a great 200m back, finishing fifth overall, but just outside of a NQT.
Anna Keble knocked 1.5 seconds off of her 100m free PB, finishing fifth in the final.
Tom Beadle knocked five seconds off his 200m free PB, finishing fifth, and also smashed his PB in the 1500m, finishing fifth overall.
Fraser Scott knocked off a massive 25 seconds off his previous PB in the 200m back to finish fifth overall. He also set a PB in the 200m fly.
Ben Hollis swam a one-second PB in the 100m back and finished fifth in the 200m free.
Adam Gillard swam a massive PB in the 1500m free, finishing sixth overall. He also set a massive PB in the 200m free.
Alex Hayman achieved a PB in the 200m free and finished sixth in the 200m breast.
Jayke Arkell - just returning to competitive swimming - equalled his PB in the 100m back and finished fifth. He was also just outside of his best in the 200m breast and free.
Johanna Linblom knocked seconds off her PB over the weekend. She set a two-second PB in the 100m and 200m back and a one-second PB in the 100m free.
Carly Truong swam a fantastic 200m back to qualify for the regional championships.
Grace Wingrove finished her successful Essex championships with an eight-second PB in the 200m fly and a ten-second PB in the 200m free.
Mia Newton also swam very well, setting a five-second PB in the 200m free.
Laura Francis swam a very good 100m fly, finishing just outside of her life time best.
