CYCLING
HAINAULT Roads Club members dominated the heavily-subscribed ECCA 10-Mile Time trial in Cambridge.
Almost 100 competitors took part in a fast dual-carriageway E2 course severely restricted by the blustery conditions.
Paul Godfrey once again exhibited the results of his strict winter training regime by stopping the clock with 23mins 57secs, his fastest ten-mile trial time so far this year. Not far behind was Mark Steers in 24mins 36secs.
Local Redbridge resident Howard Staunton turned in another powerful performance to finish 13 seconds down on Steers in 24mins 49secs.
A much closer margin separated Hainault Club Champion Rob Dulson and next placed Roger Pimm on 26mins 22secs and 26mins 24secs respectively.
Paul Gee, gradually finding some form this year after a barren spell of racing, recorded 27mins 45secs on his way to improved fitness, while late started Brian Ward clocked 30mins 55secs.
Overall winner Richard O'Rourke, of Team Flitch Crono, recorded a classy 20mins 32secs.
The busy early season continued on Sunday with the Easterley club's 'Hilly' 26-miler on the E1/26a course.
Mark Steers was again competing for Hainault, joined by club mate Chris Tomkins.
Steers recorded 1hr 11mins 24secs to Tomkins' 1hr 12mins 44secs.
