Brooklands MU 0
Old Loughtonians 0
(SEHL Division One) OLD Loughtonians promotion bid will go down to the wire after a frustrating goalless draw with Brooklands MU.
A solitary point in Manchester was not enough to keep their title hopes alive and they now face league winners Southgate at Luxborough Lane on Sunday - on the final day of the season - in a must-win game.
The game started with both sides pressing hard to get the upper hand but it was Brooklands who settled quicker and won the first penalty corner.
It was well saved and gave Loughts a springboard to settle into a ryhthm of composed build up at the back and dynamic leads from the forwards.
The pattern of play was echoed in the second half - Brooklands looked dangerous from the outset but it as Loughts who gained control of the match.
However, despite frequently opening up the home defence, they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.
The result keeps Loughts second in the table - they are one of four teams still in with a chance of making the promotion play-offs.
