A full outing for the Wanstead RFC Junior section this week with U7’s through to U11’s and a U13 side away to Ilford Wanderers.
U7’s and U8’s got the ball rolling with a win and a draw. The U9/10 lost their first game and the second had both sides with a mix of Wanstead and Ilford players in each side (Blues v Reds) with the blues winning.
U10’s played a mixed 10/11’s and lost the first game and drew the second.
The U13’s with some inspired tackling over came their opponents 34-22.
The U12’s were away to Eaton Manor and with a very good all round performance defeated Manor 20-0. The Manor backs always posed a threat but resolute defending and great desire to win saw them through.
Upper Clapton, also at Eaton Manor put up a much sterner test for Wanstead especially with their heavier pack. 5-0 down at half time saw the Herons raise their game and take on the opposition pack to take the win 10-5.
The U17’s played Upminster at home and produced a much improved all round performance despite losing to the league leaders.
