WALTHAM Forest boxer Tyler Nejat stormed into the final of the Schoolboy Championships after a convincing points win over Michael Hughes of King Alfred ABC.
Despite conceding a significant height advantage to his opponent, Nejat’s speed and powerful body shots saw him take the initiative in the bout.
The local fighter will now meet Birmingham’s Steed Woodhall in the final of the illustrious competition at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham this Saturday.
And Nejat will have his work cut out, as the Eastside ABC puncher boasts a 100 per cent record heading into the fight.
The Waltham Forest boxing club missed out on having a second competitor in the final, as Abdul Samad Fazil was defeated by last year’s champion Thomas McDonagh in their U52kg semi final.
McDonagh, who went into the competition as the favourite, had an impressive record of 12 wins from his 14 fights to his name heading into the clash, and just had too much for the local fighter.
Senior coach Chris Baker said: “It’s the best we have done in this competition in a long time.
“And if Tyler can up his game he will surely bring the national title back to Waltham Forest.”
