OLD LOUGHTS’ men ended the National Hockey League season on a high with a 7-0 drubbing of strugglers Peterborough.
A hat-trick from captain James Stedman sent Loughts on their way, while Oliver Didham grabbed a brace and Darren Cheeseman and Liam Doidge also got themselves on the scoresheet.
The result saw them claim third place in the final standings, just missing out on promotion.
Elsewhere, the ladies played out a 1-1 draw with St Albans at the weekend, cementing their place as the league’s runners-up.
Becky Halle finished six goals ahead of her nearest rival as the season’s top scorer, and she finished with a flourish by scoring the team’s only goal of the game.
Loughts’ under 15 boys’ team scored the result of the weekend, however, as they made serene progress to the final of the National Plate by conjuring six of the best as they roared past Neston South Wirral.
They will now play Reading in the final on April 26 in Sheffield.
