BANCROFT’S Under 16 netball team shot their way to a terrific bronze medal at the National Schools Netball Championships, bringing a successful end to a long road of competition.
The Woodford Green girls earned the right to represent London and the South-East after prevailing in a series of county and regional matches.
Bancroft’s began brilliantly in the nationals, which were held at Oundle School in Peterborough, as they topped their group, containing teams from across the other nine competing regions.
However, their progress was thwarted by Beaconsfield School in the semi-final, ending their hopes of winning the tournament. The event produced a rousing climax, though, as Bancroft’s beat Chelmer Valley School in the third-place play-off on golden goals, after extra time failed to separate the two sides.
