ILFORD Golf Club’s Bob Goulding, pictured, qualified first for the showcase event of the club’s calendar, the Captain’s Prize.
The competition attracts a huge field every year, and this event was no exception.
The top 64 players qualify to contest the match play rounds, culminating in a 36-hole final in September.
Goulding made light work of the heavy winds that caused many a golfer to struggle, as he finished with an impressive score of nett 60.
The performance also saw the veteran golfer’s handicap cut two shots to eight.
