WEST HAM United U16 girls won the Tesco Cup Southern Regional Final on Saturday at the Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields, Putney, South West London. The girls will now advance to the English National Final of the Tesco Cup to be held at the Walkers Stadium, Leicester, on Sunday, May 17.
West Ham United U16 girls were undefeated throughout the round robin stages of the tournament and the team dominated the final against Canterbury Girls, who they defeated 2-0.
England and Chelsea star Casey Stoney, who attended the event in Putney, selected promising local footballer Maddie Thomas from West Ham, Best Midfielder and overall Best Player from over 100 girls in the U16 event. Team-mate Holly Griffin was named Best Forward.
Team Manager Wayne Collier said, ‘We are delighted with the win, the girls played some great football and really deserved it. They are all really looking forward to representing the Southern Region in the next stage of the Tesco Cup Competition in May.’
