LOCAL golfers played a key role in Essex’s thrilling six-all draw with Kent at the weekend.
West Essex’s Ross Spurgeon earned one and a half points with a foursomes win and a halved singles match, while Woolston Manor’s outstanding talent Jack Winer won his singles game.
The Chigwell club’s rising star Perry Morgan also recorded a valuable half in his singles match, after he and Winer had slipped to a surprising loss in the morning’s foursomes competition.
Elsewhere, in the Leslie Wood trophy, West Essex thrashed Maldon 13-2 to progress to the second round, while there were also victories for Royal Epping Forest, Woolston Manor, Wanstead, Chigwell and Epping.
West Essex are on the lookout for junior members to join the club. Anyone interested should contact the club secretary on 0208 529 7558 or email sec@westessexgolfclub.co.uk.
