LEYTON NETBALL Club will get the chance to pit their wits against some of the country’s best teams next season, after they gained promotion to the National Premier League Two with a series of stunning performances at the end of season play-offs in Sheffield.

The local team won all three of their matches against stiff opposition – including a thrilling two-point victory over Premier League Two side Dudley Leisure – as they marched into one of the highest divisions of the English game.

Leyton have long dominated the Essex Metropolitan League, winning a number of titles in succession.

But it was their triumph in the London and South East Regional Division, against sides from Surrey, Middlesex and Kent, that saw them qualify for the prestigious play-offs.

Nine regional winners were joined by the bottom three clubs of the Premier League Two, and they were then divided into three groups, with the winner gaining promotion and earning the right to flaunt their skills up and down the country.

Leyton got the ball rolling with a comfortable 51-29 win over TFC, before their epic encounter with Dudley – the highest ranked team in their group.

That performance spurred them on to a 40-34 victory over Clan, completing a magnificent 100 per cent win record.

They will now contest 16 matches across the country next season.

The team’s long-term head coach, ex-England international Pat Meadows was elated with her players’ efforts.

“The determination that I have seen from the girls this season has been fantastic,” she said.

“They’ve always been good but this year they’ve worked so hard, and it’s opened their eyes to what they can achieve.”

Meadows is a national selector, and it is her job to ensure the country’s best players are being noticed and given the chance to shine.

And if their recent displays are anything to go by, it may not be long before she is recommending some of her own players for international honours.
