HAINAULT Roads Club super-veteran racer and Ilford resident Howard Staunton, travelled to Rye in Kent on Sunday to compete in the San Fairy Ann CC 25 mile time trial.
The Q25/12 course started near Romney Marsh headed west along a dog-leg to Brookland, then proceeded north to Ashford before returning to New Romney.
Just missing out on finishing under the hour Staunton stopped the clock in a tremendous time of one hour and 17 seconds. Clearly on form, his exceptional ride secured him third place overall for the veterans category.
The event was won by Peter Tadros of In Gear Quickvit RT in a time of 54:06.
Meanwhile, Hainault Roads Club champion, Rob Dulson, faced his first 50 mile time trial of the season.
Competing in the Colchester Rovers promoted race on the E7/50b. Dulson had a sunny and windless day to break his ‘50’ duck this year.
Starting in Little Bently, east of Colchester, the undulating course takes on two taxing circuits of 18 miles before a concluding smaller circuit, stretching to Little Clacton, is completed to finish near Frating Green.
Crossing the line in 2:10:30 placed Dulson in 31st position overall. The winning time was 1:52:02 by Paul Smith of PCA/Ciclos Uno.
