WOODFORD’S Under 14s were crowned county champions after defeating Chelmsford in the final of the Essex Cup in front of a packed crowd at Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club.
The team had already enjoyed a remarkable season, having secured promotion to Essex League Division One, but they made it a double dose of success by becoming the first team from Division Two to win the cup competition.
After beating Upper Clapton and first division champions Westcliff en route to the final, Woodford then dispatched Chelmsford, 10-0, after an impressive display of speed and power.
To cap an outstanding campaign, Woodford boys William Cooper-Rendu, Matt Grogan, Daniel Matautia and Cameron Dutch were selected to play for Essex against Hertfordshire.
