LOCAL golfer Simon Khan enjoyed strong preparation for this month's US Open by securing a top 20 finish in one of the most prestigious tournaments on these shores.
The Epping professional came 18th in the European Open, played at the London Golf Club in Kent last week, with a final score of level par.
Khan had got off to a terrific start with a first round score of 67 that left him in a tie for third. A four over par second round and a disappointing third day saw him slip out of contention, but he rallied on the final day to move back up the leaderboard.
The result was his second best on the Race to Dubai Tour this year, having finished tied for seventh at the Indonesian Open earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, Chigwell golfer Oliver Fisher wasn't far off his local rival, as he was 14 places back in 32nd.
The result was the best finish the 20-year-old has managed on the tour since coming tied for eleventh in the first event of the season at the Hong Kong Open.
Since then Fisher had made just four cuts from eleven tournaments, but he will be hoping this latest performance will provide him with the confidence he needs to begin a charge back up the rankings.
