WANSTEAD Central Bowls Club stormed to two convincing wins over Clementswood in the County Double 'Fours' Competition.
Central won both rinks, racing to a 23-15 triumph in the away fixture and a 21-16 victory in the corresponding home game.
The club's B team were also in action in the same competition against Elm Park, and they won one rink but lost another. Central comfortably cruised to victory in the home game, winning 30-8.
The away fixture was much tighter with the score level after 14 ends, but, when the news filtered through that they had such a commanding lead at home, Central conceded the game 22-14.
Central also convincingly beat Barking 83-33 after three rinks when they competed in the Alpha Group Triples League.
A tense local derby went Central's way after they beat Wanstead 44-41 in a Redbridge Afternoon League fixture.
However, Central were comfortably beaten by Aldersbrook 65-46 in the Ilford and District League, losing all three rinks.
In the same evening, Central lost both rinks to Wadham during a 'Clark White' league fixture.
They were beaten 22-16 in the home fixture, while Wadham won 27-20 in the corresponding away game.
Wadham ladies also capped a good week for the club with an impressive 39-12 win over Orford House in the Colbert Cup.
The men's Thursday Fours B team increased their unbeaten start to the season to six games with a 27-17 triumph, also against Orford House, while the A team won 24-8 against Chingford.
Wadham were also victorious against Buckhurst Hill, winning by 26 shots, in the Foresters League, while the club also achieved success against Higham Hill, by 19 to 17, in the Forest District League.
Despite early leads in the pairs, triples and fours, Bantham and Ongar ladies were defeated by Connaught in the first round of the Top Club competition.
Brenda Perret, contesting the singles, was level at the halfway stage but Sylvia Bloomfield upped her game and won 21-11.
In the pairs, Hazel Issitt and Pat Kitson fought tooth and nail but in the last few ends they went down 26-16, while the triples of Rita Stacey, Joan Cooper and June Ashley were defeated 23-12.
In the fours, Jackie Brown, Jean Miller, Valerie Finbow and Joan Barnes were defeated 24-18.
Hazel Issitt and Pat Kitson were beaten by just four shots when they lost 23-19 in the preliminary round of the County pairs away to Butcher and Marsh of Griffin.
